Finding the Gaps in History Through Experimental Cinema

Join us on Thursday October 3rd for an insightful conversation with Chi Jang Yin, award-winning experimental filmmaker and Associate Professor in the School of Cinematic Arts. The conversation will be moderated by Josh Tsui, Director of Innovation at CDM, and will discuss Yin’s experimental filmmaking and explore how history and technology inspire her work. She will delve into her unique creative process, using her latest film as a starting point for the conversation. This event will include a short screening of recent work.

The screening and Q&A will incorporate cinematic theory and technology practices and discuss how these two can be meaningfully intertwined through historical materials. This talk is perfect for students developing their authentic voices in their film practices, offering an engaging experience across genres.

About Chi Jang Yin:
An award-winning experimental filmmaker with expertise in media and cinema studies, Chi Jang Yin’s work investigates the missing gaps in history that are invisible to others. Yin’s expertise in experimental cinema, VR documentaries, Cinéma Vérité, and media literacy informs a diverse body of work recognized internationally in galleries, exhibitions, and film festivals. Her films have been shown at Academy Award-qualifying film festivals such as the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, Germany; Uppsala International Short Film Festival, Sweden; Los Angeles Film Festival; Chicago International Film Festival; and Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival IDFA, The Netherlands. Her work was also invited to the professional film market at Visions du Réel, Nyon in Switzerland.
