Dance: Zoie Seay

Dance. The rhythmic movement to music following cues and steps and routines engraved in
one’s brain. Or on the other hand, the flow state of someone hearing a tune and letting their
intuition be the blueprint for choreography. The world of dance is momentous and holds a place
across various art forms. Music is made to dance to, plays are created to interpret movements,
and paintings, drawings, photographs, and videos are used to highlight the beauty of elegant
gesticulation

In my adolescence, around the ages of five to nine, I always thought I’d be a dancer. The sounds
of music would flow into my body acting as a chemical reactant, then shortly producing the
movements that would stop bystanders in their tracks for a view. The world of dance for me
stemmed from Michael Jackson’s Thriller and fizzled out a few years after the release of Step Up
Revolution. In my life, dance happened to just be a phase, but for many others it’s a passion that
comes second to none.

There is one young lady in particular who has made significant strides in the competitive dance
community. Zoie Seay, a high school senior out of Gwinnett County, Georgia, has an artistic
resume like none of her peers. Starting her journey at just 3 years old, she has won dancer finalist
at national competitions, worked as a dance instructor for younger students, and worked for a
dance competition called “Celebrity”. Now, in her latter teenage years, Seay continues her
competitive dance career under Triple 7 Dance Company as well as competing with her school
under the Gold Luxx. While Seay’s high school dance team is relatively new, her dance company
contains an illustrious history with countless noches under their belt. Triple 7 Dance Company
has won the 2024 Kids Artistic Revue National Dance Competition, a Showstopper National
Championship, 378 1st place trophies, 245 2nd place trophies, and 120 3rd place trophies. The
company has also performed at Walt Disney World’s Magic Music Days and has countless
upcoming shows for 2025.

Seay will continue her dance career up until the summer of 2025, but after that, things seem
uncertain. While she has passion for the art, it doesn’t seem to be a critical factor in her future.
As of right now Seay plans to attend North Carolina Central, studying elementary education and
studying a bit of dance on the side. As far as competitive dance goes though, that journey may be
coming to a halt. It’s always a bittersweet moment when it comes time to close a novel, but
hopefully throughout her fourteen years of competition and performance she has influenced
younger generations and those around her to be extraordinary beyond measure.

My Name is Jahiem Brown! I am currently a freshman at DePaul and studying film and television. I plan to one day own a film production company and give creatives the tools necessary to produce their creative visions. The topic of art to me has always piqued my interest. From an early age music, dance, and visual media spiraled my brain. I want to use this blog series as a way to deepen my connection within all aspects of art and hopefully allow young artists to be discovered by others in the process.
