Sophomores: Please Read!

Hello Honors Students!

This message includes important information regarding Honors Career Advantage, a program designed for Honors sophomores and transfer students. Please read the following closely as you will be expected to complete the program this year.

The Honors Program has partnered with the Career Center to bring you an important opportunity to think critically about your future and to prepare for success after DePaul.

Here’s what you can expect:

Autumn Quarter

When it comes to positioning yourself for internships, research opportunities, and career-oriented jobs, the skills you bring to the table are central to hiring decisions. That’s why we’ll start the year with an emphasis on identifying, understanding, and communicating your workplace skills.

The Autumn Quarter module consists of two parts: 1) Prework (completed at home) & 2) Workshop (completed on campus).

Part 1: Prework: Before attending the workshop, you will take a critical look at your resume. First, use the Career Center’s Resume Self-Assessment Tool to make some observations about your document. Are you following best practices? Are you emphasizing your most relevant and marketable skills? Use the guide to evaluate your resume and take notes to bring with you to the workshop.

No resume? No problem! Now is a great time to begin drafting your document. You can find a wealth of resources on the Career Center’s Resumes page or you can make an appointment with an expert at the Career Center for help getting started.

Part 2: Workshop: You will attend a single, interactive workshop with the Career Center this quarter. You’ll take a deeper dive into identifying and communicating your most marketable skills in a way that emphasizes the value you bring as a candidate. You will also discover important workplace skills that you’ll want to develop during your time at DePaul, and you’ll create a plan for doing so.

Click HERE to register for a workshop.

While you only need to attend once, the workshop will be offered several times this quarter to accommodate schedules. Be sure to register for at least one of the workshops now! (Note: Location for each workshop will be sent to you via email after signing up).

Winter & Spring Quarters

During the Winter Quarter, we will turn our attention to defining your work values along with strategies for assessing “fit,” a key aspect of career satisfaction. Details will be shared at the start of Winter Quarter.
