From the Kitchen: Cake Pops

Today is my birthday! Instead of baking and frosting a normal cake, my favorite way to conquer my desire for a sweet treat is by making cake pops.

Ingredients:
-1 cake box mix (but if you want to make your own, go ahead!)
-1 can of frosting (preferably the same flavor as the cake)
-melting chocolate

  1. Make the cake according to instructions.
  2. Once the cake is out of the oven, put it into a large mixing bowl when it’s still hot and stir
making sure the cake crumbles into small pieces.
  3. Add in frosting and mix so you’re left with a scoopable mixture.
  4. Roll the cake and frosting mixture into spheres and place on a sheet or container and
    put in the freezer.
  5. After at least an hour, the cake pops should be frozen and firm.
  6. Melt the melting chocolate according to instructions.
    a. I always place a few pieces into a microwave safe bowl and microwave in
increments of 20 seconds, stirring in between the 20 seconds.
  7. Dip each cake pop in the chocolate to full coat the exterior.
  8. Place in the freezer again until the chocolate coating is fully frozen.
  9. Store in the freezer.

Growing up whenever my siblings and I had a babysitter, my parents would get us the ingredients to make cake pops and decorate them with sprinkles and different colors of chocolate. It’s a fun and easy dessert to make and is perfect for a birthday. So if you’re wondering what to get me for today, I wouldn’t be opposed to cake pops…
