First Year Study Abroad Program

Calling all Honors Freshmen!

If you just can’t wait to begin your first study abroad experience, then the First Year Study Abroad Program is for you! There are several First Year Abroad opportunities being offered in Spring Quarter, but don’t delay! Applications for the First Year Study Abroad Program close on February 1!

This year’s remaining FY@broad programs will be offered spring quarter, with travel at the beginning of the summer.

Accepted students will be enrolled in the corresponding LSP 112 course, which will replace an Honors requirement as listed in the program information below.

 Here are the three summer FY@broad programs (with coursework in spring quarter):

• FY@broad Australia: Community-Engaged Service Learning – A brand-new program this year focused on service learning, Indigenous Australian communities, social, and cultural issues and traveling to Brisbane and Melbourne. Replaces HON 102 (or Honors Approved Elective if HON 102 is completed.)
• FY@broad England: Charles Darwin & the Revolution Over Evolution – A program focused on the history, science, religion, and social issues surrounding the publishing of Darwin’s book On The Origin of Species, traveling to London with multiple day trips to locations surrounding London. Replaces Scientific Inquiry (non-lab) requirement or Honors Approved Elective.
• FY@broad Italy: The Legacy of Rome – A history-based program going to Florence and Rome to explore Rome’s cultural and historical influence over the centuries. Replaces HON 102 (or Honors Approved Elective if HON 102 is completed.)
• All courses also will fulfill the university’s Experiential Learning requirement.

The application deadline is FEBRUARY 1!

Students will be registering for spring quarter before they receive notice of their acceptance into the study abroad program. They should register for a course that they can drop if they will be participating in First Year Abroad, and the Study Abroad Program will enroll them in the LSP 112 course.
