Language Requirement Change

Attention Honors Students:

The Honors Program is proposing changes to the Honors Language Requirement (HLR). The Honors Staff and Honors Student Government would greatly appreciate your feedback on this proposed change. Please review the proposed HLR changes and then complete the Honors Language Survey.

In short, Honors is proposing a Language Requirement that we believe would be more equitable for all students. Instead of requiring students to reach intermediate proficiency (or take 12 credit hours at levels 104, 105, and 106 of a language), the new proposal would allow students to fulfill their HRL requirement by taking 12 language credit hours at any level.

Below, you will find Dr. Conary’s explanation of the proposed HLR changes, student op-eds in support of and against the changes, and a link to a survey to voice your opinion on the HLR.

Alexandra Rieder is a freshman majoring in English. Read Alexandra’s opinion on why she supports the proposed changes to the Honors Language Requirement.

Ana Gomez is a sophomore majoring in Cellular and Molecular Biology with minors in Spanish and Chemistry. Read why she opposes the proposed changes to the Honors Language Requirement.
