Honors Career Advantage FAQ:

What is Honors Career Advantage?

Honors Career Advantage is a new career readiness program offered exclusively to Honors sophomores and new Honors transfer students. Delivered asynchronously online through bite-sized lessons with a handful of in-person sessions sprinkled throughout the year, Honors Career Advantage is a unique opportunity that respects your busy schedule while still offering you an invaluable resource to prepare for your professional future after DePaul. Upon completing Honors Career Advantage, you will be able to identify and communicate your unique strengths as an emerging professional, articulate the value of your Honors education and college experiences to potential employers, draw upon a robust career toolkit, including a strategic resume, interviewing skills, and networking know-how, and develop a personalized plan for securing your first (or next) internship.

Who can participate in Honors Career Advantage?

Honors Career Advantage is designed to be completed in a student’s sophomore (or second) year. It is also available for new transfer students. If you are a current sophomore (students who started DePaul in the Fall of 2022) or a new transfer student (transfer students who started DePaul in the Fall of 2023), then this year’s Honors Career Advantage will be available to you.

Is Honors Career Advantage required?

We are asking all sophomore and transfer Honors students to complete the program. It’s short and low-stakes, and we are certain you will find it immensely useful down the road as you prepare to enter the professional field. However, if you believe you will be unable to complete it this term, please contact hca@depaul.edu to discuss alternatives.

Will Honors Career Advantage be graded?

No. There are no grades attached to the Honors Career Advantage.

Will current freshmen be able to participate in Honors Career Advantage next year?

Yes! While this is the first year we are implementing Honors Career Advantage, it won’t be the last. If you began at DePaul University in Fall 2023, then you participate in Honors Career Advantage starting in Fall 2024.

What if I am studying abroad next quarter?

Honors always encourages students to study abroad! If you are planning on studying abroad in Winter Quarter, please complete the online modules and contact hca@depaul.edu for an alternative to the Winter Quarter workshop.

How do I register for Honors Career Advantage?

Current sophomores and new transfer students have been automatically registered for Honors Career Advantage. Honors Career Advantage will mostly be facilitated online asynchronously via two short modules in D2L, supplemented with a few in-person sessions led by the career center throughout the year. The D2L page will be up and running by the second week of Fall quarter.

Sophomores and new transfer students, be on the lookout for email communications letting you know when and how to access the D2L Honors Career Advantage D2L page. More communication to come next week.

We hope you are excited to take part in Honors Career Advantage! If you have any questions about this program, please email hca@depaul.edu or contact your Honors Advisor.
