Abstract: : For her research project, Courtney chose a topic that she holds very close to her heart. Her topic of choice is the current state and structure of the U.S. immigration system. More specifically, deportation and forced separation protocols used against Latinx immigrant families, with a focus on the approach taken by the past and current Presidential Administrations and how institutional decisions shape the trajectory of thousands of children’s future. The importance of her research is placed on highlighting how innocent children have become symptoms of a system originally built to protect them and how this unjust violation of their well-being has lifelong effects.
