Abstract: In October 2020, Canadian animation studio Titmouse Vancouver became the first in the country to unionize. The decision was met with mixed sentiments. There are many issues in the Canadian animation industry that could potentially be solved through unionization such as unpaid overtime and demanding schedules. But there are many animators who believe unions will ultimately raise costs and lead to work being outsourced to other countries. After analyzing the potential benefits and drawbacks of unionization, this paper concluded that most of the arguments against unionization are unfounded and that unionization would ultimately be a positive change for the industry.
