Join the Honors Program in a discussion of the novel Wuthering Heights, followed by an outing to see the new movie.

Join the Honors Program for a book club discussion of Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, led by Dr. Jennifer Conary. After the discussion, we will head to the theater to see Emerald Fennell’s movie adaptation of the story.

From 4:30-5:30 PM, students will meet in Arts and Letters Hall 102 for the book club. Tickets, plus a raffle for the The Complete Brontë Collection, will be provided during this time. Then, students will head over to AMC Newcity 14 as a group for a 6:15 PM show.

For those of you who prefer or just enjoy audiobooks, Dr. Conary reccommends this one: https://www.audible.com/blog/review-wuthering-heights-audible-essentials

Tickets to the movie are limited, but you can feel free to join us for the book club even if you don’t have a ticket! Please RSVP for the movie only if you are able to attend, and cancel your ticket or contact Melanie Doweiko at mdoweiko@depaul.edu to update your RSVP if your plans change so that we may offer your ticket to another student. Students who do not show without informing us in advance may become ineligible to attend future Honors Program events.

About Wuthering Heights:

Emily Brontë’s only novel, a work of tremendous and far-reaching influence. Lockwood, the new tenant of Thrushcross Grange, situated on the bleak Yorkshire moors, is forced to seek shelter one night at Wuthering Heights, the home of his landlord. There he discovers the history of the tempestuous events that took place years before; of the intense relationship between the foundling Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw; and how Catherine, forced to choose between passionate, tortured Heathcliff and gentle, well-bred Edgar Linton, surrendered to the expectations of her class. As Heathcliff’s bitterness and vengeance at his betrayal is visited upon the next generation, their innocent heirs must struggle to escape the legacy of the past.

About Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights:

The film also stars alongside Oscar nominee Hong Chau, Shazad Latif, Alison Oliver, BAFTA winner Martin Clunes and Ewan Mitchell.

Fennell directs from her own screenplay, and produces alongside Oscar nominee and BAFTA award winner Josey McNamara and Robbie. Oscar nominee Tom Ackerley and Sara Desmond are executive producing.
