Hamnet

February 13 @ 5:00 pm 9:30 pm

Join the Honors Program for an outing to the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre to see Hamnet with a pre-show discussion with Professor Paula McQuade.

From 5:00-6:00PM, students will meet in Arts and Letters 104 for the pre-show discussion. Tickets will be provided during this time. Then, students will head over to the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre as a group for a 7:00 PM performance.

Tickets to the performance are limited. Please RSVP for the performance only if you are able to attend, and cancel your ticket or contact Melanie Doweiko at mdoweiko@depaul.edu to update your RSVP if your plans change so that we may offer your ticket to another student. Students who do not show without informing us in advance may become ineligible to attend future Honors Program events.

About Hamnet:

Warwickshire, 1582. Agnes Hathaway, a natural healer, meets the Latin tutor, William Shakespeare. Drawn together by powerful but hidden impulses, they create a life together and make a family. When the plague steals 11-year-old Hamnet from his loving parents, they must each confront their loss alone. And yet, out of the greatest suffering, something of extraordinary wonder is born. Experience the US premiere of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s stage adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s best-selling novel, adapted by award-winning playwright Lolita Chakrabarti (Hymn, Life of PiRed Velvet), and directed by Erica Whyman. Pulling back a curtain on the story of the greatest writer in the English language and the woman who was the constant presence and purpose of his life, Hamnet is a love letter to passion, birth, grief, and the magic of nature.

Run Time: 2 hours, 30 minutes (including intermission)

Audience Notice: Mature themes including scenes of domestic violence, child loss and grief, scenes of childbirth, and depictions of sexual activity.
