A new year, a new quarter, and new classes are officially underway, which means it is also time to start thinking about the 2026 First-Year Program Writing Showcase.
The Writing Showcase is an annual celebration of outstanding student writing from across the university. It highlights the creativity, insight, and skill of students in First-Year Program courses, including Honors, LSP, and WRD. If you have written something this year that you are proud of, this is a great opportunity to share your work with a wider audience.
Selected students will have their work featured at the Writing Showcase on May 19, 2026, where they will present digital posters of their projects. Students whose work is selected will receive a certificate, a 150 dollar scholarship, and recognition from the university community.
The submission deadline is April 13, so there is plenty of time to prepare. As you begin working on major assignments this quarter, the Writing Showcase ePortfolio can be a helpful source of examples and inspiration.
Students may also choose to submit their work for the Library Research Prize, which recognizes thoughtful and effective use of library resources. In addition to their essay, students submit a short Research Statement reflecting on their research process. Students are welcome to submit for both the Writing Showcase and the Library Research Prize.
If you have a piece of writing you are excited about, or if a professor encourages you to submit, consider taking the next step. Additional information and the submission page are available here: https://airtable.com/appw7XW6EAObkp0x3/shrJUvxqAjVEDIYzH
