Halloween looks different for everyone, from young children trick-or-treating to teenagers rushing to parties to couples cozying up on their couch to watch horror movies. But! There is one thing that ties all people together on Halloween, no matter how you celebrate- even if you don’t celebrate. No one can resist the tempting glow of neon wrappings all put together into a delicious collection of happiness and all things good. That’s right: candy. Almost everyone likes candy and will at least indulge in a little sweet treat on this delicious- I mean, uh, scary- holiday.
It led me to wonder- which candies do people think are best in America? And do these candies really deserve this status? I, a frequent candy consumer, am always right and clearly my opinions are all fact, so it’s up to me to find out. The list of the top 10 candies in the U.S.A was created by themost10.com.

10. Jolly Rancher
Starting off with number 10 we have Jolly Ranchers. A solid option. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who doesn’t like Jolly Rancher. Personally, though, it reminds me too much of a reward I would receive for answering a question correctly in school, not a candy I crave or can casually eat. Also, maybe a hot take, but (albeit with some minor differences) Jolly rancher flavors are not that different from each other. But it is fun to see the discourse on Tiktok of which color tastes best.

9. Sour Patch Kids
Sour Patch Kids has the spot of number 9, and I am sad but not shocked that they are not higher up. Sour Patch Kids aren’t like a lot of other candies- they’re unique and it makes them special, from their shape to the combination of both sour and sweet elements. There are many options, from the gummy kids to the gummy fruits to mixes of everything. They also genuinely have such great flavors- I used to be able to down whole bags of them. When you got small packs of these guys when trick-or-treating as a kid, you know you struck it good that year. Definitely my favorite gummy candy.

8. Skittles
Eighth place was earned by a classic candy, Skittles. I don’t have any problems with Skittles, but like Jolly Ranchers, they’re kind of “meh” in my book. All the flavors taste similar, and they can give you bad sores in your mouth if you eat too much (TRUST me). But occasionally there are times when I randomly crave Skittles, and whenever that hits, they are good. They are a classic as well, so I think eighth place is a good spot for them. I miss their ads where people would get the “Skittle disease.” Those were funny.

7. Starburst
Number seven is Starburst… which I find interesting. Like Jolly Ranchers, I don’t think I’ve ever really enjoyed Starburst outside of my high school Spanish class where you would get one as a reward if you got 1st place in Kahoot. Don’t get me wrong, they aren’t bad. I enjoy the flavors, especially the pink ones. But they just aren’t casually eaten. I may just be traumatized; I cannot count the number of times I’ve opened a Starburst and it’s as hard as a rock. Then you just have to suck on it while your teeth cry in pain at your attempted bite. Even when they are chewable, I feel like they are never a candy I steer towards- just something sweet to have real quick when there’s nothing else in my trick-or-treat bag. It should not be above Skittles and SPK.

5. Twix
HOW IN THE WORLD did Twix not make top 5?? Twix takes the spot of number 6 and I am shocked. Twix is amazing in my opinion, with soft, gooey caramel and a crunchy biscuit base, all held together by smooth chocolate. I can feel my mouth water as I write this. As someone who loves chocolate but not nuts, I adore this candy because it’s a unique, nut-free chocolate treat. I would probably give up my left kidney if I was promised unlimited Twix. I wish it got a higher spot.
